I found it a bit amusing that people are all a dither over Facebook suddenly. How is this news? We all know how much I hate facebook but let me tell you why.

Here is a little story, my FB app was driving me crazy on my phone. It continually dinged when someone posted. I tried everything to turn the POS off. It had no setting to turn that damn thing off. So I uninstalled it. When you don't use their damned app they make it difficult for you. Every day, I got a message telling me that if I wanted to be able to upload my pictures easier I should use their app and that the app is so much better. I could not upload more than 3 pics. the mobile site is practically worthless (I use FB to post pics of the grandkids and almost all my friends on FB are family and close friends) So, just a week before this drama started about FB I was telling a client about this. I am his FB manager. I have been telling everyone this for years. I have to use FB but I hate it.

Here is what you need to understand and I have known this from day one. FB makes all their money from data mining and selling that data. Zuckerburg is a slimey scumbag that cares only about himself and power, that is it. This has been known forever but the crappy media ignores it. The platform is not helpful to anyone and is counter intuitive. It is not made for ease of use at all. There is only one reason people use it, because everyone is on it and that is the only way to stay caught up with your friends.

And now back to the app. I have so many people that love apps. Do you understand that once an app is on your phone they can look at everything!!!! The reason phone conversations are showing up in facebook data is because that app can see everything on your phone. This has always been. Also, the reason they beg you to use their app and the reason they make their mobile app so hard to use is because they are desperate to get that app on your phone so they have access.

For some unknown reason this is a deal now and I don't know why. I guess it is because of the election ads that they hypocritically sold. I also need to point out it is not just FB, Google and all apps are the problem. They all are getting info from your phone.

[/b][/i]
This is what you need to know about FB. I hope it totally goes away. Apps are not a cool thing and you give them access to your phone, in my personal opinion.

Here's a little more on the FB story. Google too. It may seem like a conspiracy theory but you can google it if you want- plenty of good info out there...

Facebook and Google were started with seed money from the CIA. Now I deal with google here and there but no Facebook. Google is hard to avoid - I use Duckduckgo as much as possible and even that isn't private. But it is another thin wall between google directly.

As a result of the seed money- Uncle Sam has full access to all the data that is collected and mined. Yes Zuckerburg is a slime- selling personal data about our lives and supplying surveillance data to the government, they have full access. Sam is wired in directly.

The funny thing is that people are accepting of all this- we live in the most surveilled society on earth. If you value liberty and freedom- you will care. Hitler could only dream of this kind of intelligence capability.

And every cell phone today is a tracking device. Uncle sam can trace back everywhere you have been in the last year (within about 3 feet) if they want.

Many years ago I worked for a very large engineering company. We were on the first and second floor of a very large building in the Denver area. But below us was another floor- no signs anywhere to identify what company it was. But I would go outside to smoke and over some months I met and talked to several "employees" who worked on the level below the first floor. Got to know a few people and eventually they offered to show me what was inside.

The damn place looked like NORAD! It was a data collection center for uncle sam. Tied directly into the internet backbone. They showed me server racks that were 50 yards long- and a command center.

I knew right then that nothing at all was private. They were data mining - even 20+ years ago. Today it's all much more sophisticated.

One of my friends quit Facebook for Lent, and is going to keep reducing time spent on it. Even deleted the app on his phone. Personally I think this is a little baby/bathwater to me. I am willing to lose some privacy to keep easy contact with friends and relatives.

I am not sure about the CIA tie but it would not surprise me. Google does know everything about us. Knowledge is power. If people are getting all your info you are at a disadvantage. Corporate espionage is illegal for a reason but you know what? Law is gone now.

I am happy about that however what really upsets me is that the general public doesn't usually do anything until they hear it from the news. The corrupt media is complicit in all of this. I have been shouting all this from the rooftops but no one cared until this week when it showed up on the news. I am still not clear why it did. Probably some sacrificial lamb thing to get Trump.

Interesting story about the "secret" data center. Lol
I interviewed at a company one time in Centennial in a large business park, and they were showing me around and pointed to a building across the parking lot. No signs on the building to show what business it was, and lots of black SUVs in the parking lot. He said nobody goes near there. Top secret.

I tried DuckDuckGO once and it seemed pretty lame.
This one seems a little better (Ixquick), supposed to return Google results without the tracking. You can also use their proxy on the links but it is slow. Also it doesn't work as well without javascript, but you get one page.

https://www.ixquick.com/

My advice is don't use/enable javascript and set your browser to delete cookies each session. And of course never FB or Google sign in, or any of the other social media logins. They all suck your data. duh.

Millennials don't even care about their privacy and don't they (social media) know it.

You have that right, was talking to some CU students bar tending at the brew pub one time, they laughed about it and their whole attitude seems to be since 100% privacy is impossible (true), you may as well let it all hang out and don't even worry about it... you paranoid old fogey. LoL I say just use some common sense and minimize your online footprint the best you can, and stay better informed.
