FCC votes to repeal Obama-era net neutrality rules

The Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to repeal Obama-era net neutrality rules.

The repeal passed on a 3-2, party-line vote.
Quote:
“It is time for the Internet, once again, to be driven by engineers and entrepreneurs and consumers rather than lawyers, accountants and bureaucrats,” Pai
said in remarks before the vote.

Quote:
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, a Republican who says his plan to repeal net neutrality will eliminate unnecessary regulation, said, "The sky is not falling, consumers will remain protected and the internet will continue to thrive.".

Quote:
Paul Ryan said...
“Despite its unassuming name, the Obama administration’s net neutrality regulation threatens the free and open internet that has done so much to advance modern society," Ryan said in a statement. "The Trump administration’s action to roll back this egregious government overreach into the most innovative space will benefit all users of the internet."

Yea Baby!! :Thank you

This is the worst! Since Net Neutrality was defeated, my internet is the same speed, the same price, and the same reliability. We are back to 2015 levels! The inhumanity of it all!

rofllol :Hysterical: ...really?

Only a retard would celebrate this? How easily they get you to celebrate getting F***ed? Its comical to the rest of the world, they can't even comprehend way anybody would profit from their healthcare, they can't even fathom it because it makes no sense. I try to explain to them that Right Wing idiots think the economy will be a fraction of a percentage point better their way- and we all laugh at the absurdity. In Spain the internet is free everywhere, and its lighting fast- Why wouldn't a government want too provide that for their people? Just like the tax plan, there are about 500 guys and their families that should celebrate this..... and the other 320 million should be pissed

What is net neutrality? It protects us from corporate power

BS. But that's what you wind up with when you read bad info.

I'd rather have corporations in control of the internet- not the government.

Quote:
Like most legislation coming out of Washington, the name didn't really reflect what the law would have done. Here’s a case in point: Ask yourself, “Where was the internet 25 years ago in 1992?” For the most part, it did not exist!

OK, then ask yourself how in the world did it become the all-pervasive, everywhere at once, information, education, communications, entertainment, shopping and commerce giant that it is today? Was it because of early so-called Net Neutrality? Well, of course not. In fact, most agree that the internet is what it is precisely because the government did NOT interfere.

It did not regulate, oversee, act as traffic cop or playground teacher. For the government, it was strictly, HANDS OFF. And we created the freest and fair marketplace in history, allowing consumers to choose the winners and losers in a competitive marketplace.

Good point about the " Washington name game"- Net neutrality, dreamers, consumer protections, inequality blah blah... all progressive marketing code words to distract the sheep, while the Washington elites behind the curtains pass more laws and take away economic freedoms and piss on the Constitution.

For me it wasn't ever about net neutrality anyway, it was about Executive over reach and Title II common carrier reclassification. That little maneuver opened up unlimited regulations over the Internet by un-elected partisan FCC bureaucrats.

The FTC has always had power to regulate any internet monopolies if they misbehave. And Congress should pass any laws when needed to set up/define a limited amount of FCC authority over the Internet, only as required. Not an executive order by a tyrant socialist.

This is an excellent point that I think many people missed entirely. The FTC can act against any violation of the law without net-neutrality. In fact most of the things they are worried about are already against the law - like slowing down a competitors web traffic or limiting free speech. The thing is that none of that stuff was going on to any big extent BEFORE net-neutrality. Why worry about problems that do not exist. And if it were ever to actually exist- the FTC can enforce the law, or make new law, or otherwise stop any actions that are not lawful regarding internet infrastructure or competitive issues or even consumer rights.

Simple as that. And for me it was always about Executive overreach as well.
Keep the government the hell out of my life!

I'm quite pleased with how the internet has progressed... without the government taking control of the internet. In fact- with Net-neutrality gone I think we will see massive investment in a new internet that will be 100 times faster. It will happen in less than 5 years.
