Don't believe what you read about this whole "fake news" thing. Facebook and Google are just trying to get power by skewing their feeds and trending news even more. It is power play.

Alt-news sites face post-election identity crisis
Marketers also become warier over type of sites on which ads end up being displayed

In recent days, some brands and ad platforms have blacklisted the right-wing Breitbart News for hate speech, while Facebook and Google — facing accusations of enabling misinformation online — have acted to prevent their advertising from appearing on “fake news” sites.

“If they are dependent on digital advertising, [these sites] lives will become harder and there may be some winnowing out,” says Ken Doctor, analyst at Newsonomics, adding that content will also need to adapt. “The readership landscape is a total unknown going into 2017. What are people going to click on now? They can try all kinds of things, whether it's Kim Kardashian news or Melania Trump news.”

Mainstream Media Blames Russia for “Fake News” While Pushing Neo-McCarthyism

It seems the The Post is playing a key role in waging a new McCarthy-style witch hunt targeting any independent websites which dare to challenge the prevailing anti-Russian party line currently dominating the mainstream political and media establishment – evident beyond any doubt after reading this latest feature in The Washington Post written by Craig Timberg entitled, “Russian propaganda effort helped spread ‘fake news’ during election, Experts say.”

ABC News did a pretty good piece on fake news, generated during the election by young website creators in
Veles, Macedonia motivated by money from Google adsense with traffic driven by Facebook.
Fox News and others repeated the misinformation.
Made up headlines and stories about the candidates arguably overtook real news.

A recent Pew Research study found that 62 percent of American adults get their news from social media, with Facebook leading the way by far.

“Facebook is the platform where this stuff is taking off and going viral,” Silverman said. “If Facebook simply walks away and washes its hands of the whole thing it’s only going to get worse.”

That's hilarious!! I hear someone on the left is trying to startup the leftist version of Breitbart. I predict that will go over about as well as Air America and Al Jazeera America.

I love how they think Slate is "reputable" :Hysterical:

Interesting chart. Mostly accurate I'd say.

Except I always thought USA Today was pretty OK and a little Center-right bias.

Also Huffy post is variable, not that analytical or accurate many times. Lots of articles written by college student amateur Economists with questionable conclusions, like the McDonald's wage/price study, or most pro-Obamacare insurance pieces.

Also I wouldn't put the MSM networks dead center, they all lean left.

I’ve been getting into multiple Twitter fights about the term “fake news” of late, a topic about which I feel strongly but which I don’t have time to reargue over and over. So here are the reasons I find the term “fake news” to be counterproductive, even aside from the way Washington Post magnified it with the PropOrNot campaign amidst a series of badly reported articles on Russia that failed WaPo’s own standards of “fake news.”

Just FYI, Fake news is a way for them to try and get control back. Don't let them have it.

Biology professor Carl Bergstrom and assistant professor at the university's Information School Jevin West have devised the “Calling BS in the Age of Big Data” course as their small contribution to moving manure out of scholarly discourse.
