Glass tiles surprisingly durable from the demo.

I'm a little curious how these separate tiles all interconnect reliably. It is one of the tougher design challenges in electronics in nasty environments.

Maybe there's an underlying grid they each plug into individually. Each has a solar panel within, and they don't seem
that heavy to handle.

I found this. It validates my question, but says it is "proprietary". I suspect is is some kind of sealed snap together connection with brass or silver plating. There is still the threat of oxidation or corrosion, and thermal expansion effects from extreme temperature swings on a roof.

During a conference call with journalists to discuss the announcement yesterday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the electric architecture of the solar roof system was proprietary to Tesla and they didn’t want to go into details about it, but they did briefly discuss the development of the system.

Musk said that making the connectors robust involved “a shocking amount of technology”:

“This is a connector that has to last for more than 30 years. It has to be weatherproof, heavy rain, snow, slush, salt, water leaking – it’s like connector hell.”

Perfect for Colorado Hail storms! Might have to get some for our roof. At least the south facing side.

The sunny states who'd have the most solar gain have the worst in solar credits.
Might be time to invest in Tesla?
