Colorado schools are arming teachers with no state oversight and few training standards
Danielle McLean,, July 8th, 2018

After 17 people were shot and killed at a high school in Parkland, Florida in February and there was a public outcry for gun control, the National Rifle Association and the Trump administration laid out their plan to solving America’s mass shooting epidemic: Arming teachers.

There are now at least nine states that allow teachers to arm guns. One of those states is Colorado, where 30 school districts and charter schools have given teachers the okay to bring firearms into classroom, according to the Denver Post. However, there is no statewide gun safety training standard for educators and no standard use-of-force policies, and such policies are left entirely to decisions of the individual school district...

There are a number of issues with allowing educators a license to carry in schools. As Rick Myers, executive director of the Major Cities Chief Association explained to the Denver Post, police officers receive hundreds of hours of training learning how to know when they are supposed to shoot and how to avoid hitting innocent people — far more training than what the teachers receive.

Meanwhile, the data is clear that more guns in school increases the likelihood of a gun-related accident... Sheldon Greenberg, a Johns Hopkins University education professor that has studied the impact of arming teachers, fears that such policies could prompt a teacher to use their gun on an unarmed student during a confrontation and noted that students of color are already punished more severely than white students for the same minor infractions due to bias, according to CityLab.

Does Colorado mandate the training for every police force and sheriff's department? They don't. The basic NRA concealed carry handgun course is most likely where the trainers start and I would guess they add a section related to carrying while also educating kids. I bet the NRA has already developed a special national course just for educators and individual districts could add their own variations to it. When I took my concealed carry course, the instructors used the national model then added a few hours including when Colorado considers it legal to use deadly force.

I would like to propose the following Colorado state wide standards for Teachers having Guns in schools...

1.) Teachers can have guns in any Colorado school (concealed or not, no license required).
2.) Teachers shall complete a hunters safety course. (no other training required)
3.) Teachers shall "shoot on sight"- any person who poses a threat.
4.) After the lowlife is down, Teacher shall place 2 rounds to the head to make sure suspect is dead. If Teacher is unsure, 2 more rounds!
5.) All Teachers who shoot and kill the suspect shall receive a gold star next to their name, if the Teacher only wounds the suspect, only a silver star will be awarded.

Rinse and repeat.

Oh... PS
Any Teacher known to be a liberal shall be required to pass a criminal background check, credit check, CBI, FBI check to verify that they are not registered with the communist party or associated with any leftist organization that hates America.
