We fished the South Platte Saturday. Not a bite. We fished the confluence and the south fork. The water level was the lowest ever and very very clear.

A great day was had by all in spite of no fish, we drank a few beers (Moose Drool) and BBQ'd some venison burgers.

We are going to head over the Arkansas river this weekend. Planning on doing a little fishing, a little poking around. Just need a change of pace for a while. :fishing:

There are 2 articles on fishing the Arkansas in todays (5/8) Denver Post Outdoors section.

Load up on your caddis patterns. This one I am told is a good dropper off a dry.

Staunton State Park opens this weekend. They stocked the heck out of the ponds in there for anyone interested in only a mile hike.

Pine Valley Ranch is having a Youth Outdoors Skills Day tomorrow (5/18). Evergreen Trout Unlimited will be teaching fly tying and casting at the gazebo by the lake. Rods and reels will be available. They will be helping kids connect to wildlife and wildlife-related recreation, including
shooting, archery, fishing, viewing, and more. Pine Valley Ranch Open Space, Pine 8AM - 2PM
The lake has been stocked twice this month.

When you take your kids fishing you want them to catch something. This is THAT weekend!

With the Staunton Park ponds stocked big time, and the Pine Valley Youth Outdoor Skills event,
the kids are bound to have an exciting time with great fishing and so many activities to choose from!

Loads of kids at Pine Valley Ranch today. Not only did every kid catch a fish, but they each received a free rod and reel from the Division of Parks and Wildlife. I got there early to set up the rods (and catch a few fish). They gave away over 80 rods. The water was boiling with fish all day. If you missed todays activities, don't worry there are plenty left over and they are biting on almost anything

Local Stocking Schedule summer 2014.

Evergreen Lake - Most fish are 10" long Hofer X Harrison Lake Rainbow Trout (whirling disease resistant).
From May through November - 2,800 fish will be stocked during the first week of each month.
DPW and Evergreen Trout Unlimited both have events around the first week of July where another 2,500+ fish will be stocked.
In November they will stock 50 Tiger Musky (7" long) and also a few larger rainbows for the coming ice fishing season.

Bear Creek Lake - Most fish are 10" Hofer X Harrison Lake Rainbow Trout (whirling disease resistant).
April through October - around 1,000 fish during the first week of each month.
In June they will stock 8,200 Saugeye (Walley X Sauger) fingerlings - 1.5"

Bear Creek below Evergren Lake - First week of August they will stock 4,000 subcatchable (5") Hofer Rainbow Trout.

Bear Creek Ponds near Estes St. and Yale Ave
will recieve 1,000 bluegill and 200 catfish in early September.
Lower Bear Creek in this area may get stocked with about 4,000 subcatchable (5") Brown trout in June

If you are interested in beginning flyfishing, I would recommend starting on a pond stocked with bluegills and good back casting room. As soon as the water in the Bear Creek Ponds starts to get to 50 deg. the bluegills will be on the move. HINT HINT
