"At the commissioners’ July 18 staff meeting, the commissioners stated that they have yet to hear the ELID proposal, and it is not on the agenda for its Aug. 1 meeting.

For a sales tax creation question to be on the November ballot, Jeffco staff members told the commissioners that the staff would need to know by mid-August to finalize the ballots before mailing them overseas.

DEED president Dean Dalvit said while the organization was hoping to present the issue to the commissioners in time for the sales tax-creation question to be on the November ballot — if the ELID proposal was approved — that no longer seems to be plausible."

The proposed Evergreen LID hit the proverbial red tape. Maintenance expenses would be deducted prior to any wish list projects, with approximately
$900,000 anticipated in annual sales tax revenues if approved by voters.

IMO they should start small, maybe just the downtown area district boundary, no tax for now, just apply for some grants to do sidewalk repairs, etc. Develop other lists of items later and propose the costs to tax payers.

Even though DEED said they wouldn't be ready to submit the proposal- they sneaked it into the meeting on Tuesday, 8-1. It was a hail Mary pass.

The boundary question is still unresolved, and DEED will want a much larger boundary that includes El-Rancho and Bergen Park. If they were only to include the downtown area- well, that's what they have now with the voluntary tax. What they want is a permanent tax authority for the whole area.

As for the sidewalks downtown- these do not and would not fall under the ELID authority. The sidewalks are under the authority of Jefferson County, and the road (a state road) is under the authority of CDOT. Any work on the sidewalks would be Jefferson County Road and Bridge responsibility. Work on the road itself would be CDOT.

We already pay taxes to Jefferson County Road and Bridge to maintain the sidewalks, and we already pay taxes to CDOT to maintain the downtown road.

Why should we pay twice?

Sounds like they need some lobbyists to play some golf with CDOT and JeffCO execs. :)
